New 6" Classic toy line from Mattel!

I believe what ever is coming is going to be good for us, because Thundercats it’s been for so many years on the shelf and MOTU used to be the same after it was resurrected by Mattel. For the good or for the bad Mattel deserve the credit for putting the risk to invest in such lines…

Well…in some ways. But if they had done the 200X line right in the first place things would have been a lot different.

I liked a lot that cartoon, because the stories were more mature than in the original show. The toys… Not so much.

If Mattel had allowed 4H more freedom to stick with their prototypes (He-Man and Teela especially) and have more articulation the toy line would have done a lot better and the show would have gone for another season.
Also Mattel truly messed up the figures per case with the multiple He-Man and Skeletors and the dozen different variants of each. Instead of getting figures of the different characters on the shelves.
After all kids don’t want the different character they would prefer to buy another figure of a character they already have but in a different outfit.
Mattel Executive #1: ‘‘I am sure Samurai He-Man will sell a lot better than the last few variants we released…’’
Mattel Executive #2: ‘‘Do you think maybe they didn’t sell to well because it’s a character they already have? Maybe we should put out a character like Randor or someone we haven’t made yet?’’
Mattel Executive #1: ‘‘No, no, no he will sell better. If he doesn’t we will go to plan B.’’
Mattel Executive #2: ‘‘Release a wave of completely new characters like Randor, Clawful, Sorceress, king Greyskull, Grizzlor and Hordak etc?’’
Mattel Executive #1: ‘‘No. Battle Armour variants. Then Snake variants. And a few other variants. If those sell well then maybe we can do a wave with some new characters.’’

Even though the original ThunderCats cardback was just plain black with the logo on the top, it’s simplicity was a part of its greatness. Do you guys think the classics should take this route and give us a simple box design that pays tribute to the original? I saw the sample boxes that they showed at SDCC and just think a simpler approach with a more classic black look with the original logo unchanged would be very successful. Everyone always tries to recolor the tcats logo but when it’s left on its original form it’s so much better.

I totally dig the original design. I wouldn’t want them to attempt to duplicate it exactly, but basing it on those would be a step in the right direction!

There is no denying that the bunch of repetitive characters (He-Man and Skeletor variations) was NOT a good idea… The reason why some of the fans collect is because of the variety and richness of the Universe of figures that compile the brand of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe…

I loved the original package design. Especially the shot of Lion-O showing the BatTle-Matic Action. :liono

somewhere in me there’s still a naive bit of hope that some day we’ll see the 200x line redone the way it should have been done in the first place because there are so many awesome designs to be found there, most of the updates to the original characters were really appealing, for one i love the updated mosquitor and snoutspout same goes for stratos and buzz-off who’s updated designs i much prefer to the original 80’s characters i had as a kid.

and seeing the filmation line it hurts seeing what could have been done with the 200x line…

Agree 100%. Even when NECA continued the line as ‘stactions’, NECA wanted to include articulation so they would be proper figures but Mattel were against that idea.

My sentiments exactly. I do like the Mezco line as well, but action figures are where its at.

Like the MOTU 200X line I would like the Thundercats Classics line to hopefully move away from the constant re-use of the standard figure buck and focus on more unique original sculpts.

That may happened for certain particular figures but as they already mentioned they would use existing molds from MOTUC to raise the new Thundercats line…

I agree. I am just saying more unique sculpts would be nicer. There are some characters that the standard buck won’t be able produce and require 100% new parts like Ssslithe and Snowman.
